Introduction

A first session in Criminality is mostly about avoiding expensive mistakes. You join a lobby of up to 30 players, spawn into SECTOR-07 and immediately face a choice: learn the map and the movement, or spend your starting cash on a weapon you do not yet understand. The guide path we recommend starts with the free casual rotation, because it costs nothing and teaches the layout. Only then does the Prime decision make sense, since Prime is what opens Standard mode and its XP-based unlocks. From there the loop is simple: earn through the allowance, buy one weapon role you can practise, and read fights before joining them. This page collects the entry points for that sequence and links each one to the deeper category it belongs to.

Beginner Path

First lobby

new

Learn the map before you learn the shop.

What to doWalk the routes between spawn, the armory and the dealer stores, and note where fights tend to start in a 30-player lobby.
Why it paysMap knowledge is free, never becomes obsolete and prevents the navigation deaths that cost new players their first weapons. A few minutes of walking costs nothing and saves the first weapon you would otherwise lose.

Prime decision

featured

The purchase that changes your mode rather than your stats.

What it unlocksStandard mode, where XP and levels unlock weapons and items, plus first-login cash and inventory expiry protection.
How to decideBuy it when you are ready to progress an account, not while you are still learning the map in the free Casual rotation.

First weapon

best

One role learned properly beats five guns bought badly.

Choice logicStart with melee or a single sidearm, because both are cheap to replace and teach range discipline without an expensive loss.
Feeding itBudget ammo before you upgrade; an expensive primary you cannot re-arm is worse than a cheap weapon you can always use.

Controls and settings

top

The free upgrade that affects every single fight.

What to tuneCamera sensitivity, field of view and movement binds, because they shape how consistently you can track a target at any range.
When to changeChange one setting at a time and play several fights before the next, so you can tell whether the change actually helped.

Core Mechanics

The first hour is a sequence, not a checklist. Start in Casual because it costs nothing and carries no XP penalty; use the time to learn where the armory and dealer stores sit and which lanes connect the map. Once movement is comfortable, decide whether Prime is worth it to you: without it you cannot enter Standard, and Standard is the only documented place where XP and levels unlock weapons and items. If you buy in, switch to Standard as your default and treat Casual as practice. Next, choose one weapon class and learn its range band rather than buying across the whole store. Finally, join fights with an objective: a bounty, a defended position or a group push, never a random duel in the open. Each step builds on the last, and skipping the first makes the rest expensive.

Advantages

Following a sequence keeps early spending honest. A new player who learns the map first does not lose weapons to navigation mistakes, and a player who picks one role can afford ammo instead of spreading cash across five guns. The guide path also makes the Prime decision explicit rather than accidental: you know that buying it changes your mode and your progression, not your damage. Because every step links to a deeper category, the same page works for a returning player who only needs the current meta of one system. And because the advice is built on documented mechanics rather than unpublished stats, it stays valid after balance updates that we cannot measure.

Challenges

Guides cannot replace hands-on time. Reading about stun and range does not teach you to read a lobby, and the fastest way to improve is still to lose a few fights in Casual where nothing is at stake. Criminality also publishes very little hard data, so advice about weapon matchups is necessarily about roles rather than exact numbers, and a guide that pretends otherwise is guessing. Seasonal updates can change item availability overnight, which means a guide can be correct about a mechanic and out of date about a pass. Finally, server rulesets differ, so a technique learned in a private server may not transfer unchanged to a public lobby.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do in my first hour?+
Join Casual, walk the map and learn where the armory and dealer stores are before buying anything. Test movement and camera settings while nothing is at stake. Then decide whether Prime is worth it, because it unlocks Standard and the whole XP and unlock chain. After that, buy one weapon in a role you can practise and join only fights that have an objective, such as a bounty or a defended position.
Should I buy Prime immediately?+
Only if you intend to progress your account. Prime unlocks Standard mode, where XP and levels unlock weapons and items, and it stops inventory items from expiring through inactivity. If you are still learning the map, Casual costs nothing and gives you the same combat practice without progression. Buying Prime before you understand the loop is not harmful, but it does mean paying for a mode you are not yet using.
How do I stop losing money every session?+
Keep a reserve for ammo and only buy a weapon when it changes how you fight. Join fights with an objective instead of wandering into duels, because a bounty or a defended position gives the engagement a purpose and a payout. Finally, learn one range band well: a player who consistently forces fights into their weapon range loses far less gear than one who takes every fight offered.

Quick Tips

💡

Spend your first session in Casual with an empty shopping list. Walk the map, find the armory and dealer stores, and learn which lanes connect the spawn to the open areas. Every weapon you do not buy in hour one is ammo you can afford in hour two, and map knowledge never becomes obsolete after a balance update.

💡

Write down one rule for engagements: you only join fights you can name an objective for. A bounty, a defended position or a group push qualifies. A random duel in the open does not, because even a win costs ammo and even a loss costs a weapon. This single habit changes a session economy more than any specific gun choice.

💡

Test your sensitivity and camera settings before you test weapons. Aim and movement settings affect every fight, while a new gun affects one range band. Players who tune controls first improve faster because the feedback loop is consistent, and they avoid the common trap of blaming a weapon for what was actually a camera problem all along.
